Artist's Comments

Prism Comics needed a picture for the cover of their 2009 guide, and they wanted something related to current events (either gay marriage, DADT, or recession). Gay marriage and DADT seemed too obvious, so I went for recession.

The banner at the top says "If love was money, we'd be living in a mansion."

I know they look well dressed for homeless people, but those are their only clothes. They're just coincidentally fashionable.

The sign that says "This side up" is actually pointing up. Having it point down is just too cliche now.

I thought this would take me longer to draw. The sketch took me a good two hours, but the inking and coloring was only about 3 hours together.

oh wow that is so cute, though if you wanted to make their clothes look not as nice you could turn the gum at the bottom of the shoe to red to make it look like her shoe had a hole in the sole. I also love how this image could be very well universal, the character in the back is obstructed enough to be either woman, man or trans so you put what ever character you want to be there, there.

The lack of dirt makes them look newly homeless, which has more impact I think.
